What exhaust for a 987.2 Boxster

My (second) Boxster sounds like a muffled sowing machine, I need to make it sound like a GT3 or something. For my previous 986 Boxster I got a $200 exhaust on eBay, and it sounded great. Made in China, but it looked OK and sounded like a GT3!.
I bought a similar China system on eBay for my 2009 for $300 (incl shipping), and it didn't fit at all... So now I need to find something that fits.
I have been looking at a complete system from Fabspeed, with headers, sport cats and sport mufflers, but this set up is really expensive. Are there any other systems out there for the 987.2 with the 9A1 engine? I have seen a lot of systems for the M96/M97 engines, but only Fabspeed for the 9A1 engine...
Any ideas...???

That is the exact exhaust that I already bought. It doesn't fit at all. The two connecting pipes are too long, the two muffler flanges are too narrowly spaced, and the two outlet pipes are way too long, sticking 4 inches out past the bumper. $300 wasted!

Hi Fly
I have just noticed on your first post that you say " Are there any other systems out there for the 987.2 with the 9A1 engine?" I didnt notice the "9A1" engine bit. Is this the later engine without the IMS. Did you mention it had this engine to the people who you bought the exhaust off. I have looked at 2 sites were they are selling this exhaust system, they say there will be a slight modification to do for the 987.2 regarding the hanging extenders. Could you modify it yourself to fit, maybe, or just return it and keep looking. Sorry I cant help any further,

The eBay ad for that exhaust says 2005 to 2009, mine is a 2009. But it didn't fit.

To my knowledge the cat back exhaust for the 987.1 (with the M97 engine) and the 987.2 (with the 9A1 engine) are identical or interchangable. The headers however, are completely different. So if the $300 Chineese exhaust was made correctly, it should fit 2005 to 2012. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There are several manufacturers that make good cat back systems, but very few that makes headers for the 987.2, unfortunately...

I was reading through the posts and would also like to put a different exhaust on my 2011 Cayman S. However, you mention the 9A1 engine, my certificate of authenticity which came with the car, says it's an M1A engine. Does anyone know the difference?

The 9A1 and M1A is the same thing, the new design for all Porsches from 2009 on. This is a much more robust design than the old M96/M97 type engine, but maybe not as robust as the GT2/GT3/Turbo engine that was based on the air cooled (964/993) crank case.

I see that FVD has a complete exhaust for the 987.2 (Cayman/Boxster), but to a ridiculous price. I believe I will end up with a Fabspeed system, I already have a Fabspeed header and muffler system on my (1987) 911, and I'm very happy with it.

When I changed the exhaust (only muffler) on my 986, it transformed the whole feeling of driving the car. It sounded like a GT3, and on my butt dyno it suddenly had 100HP more, lol! It also felt more responsive, and maybe gained a few HP, but the sound and the feeling of going much faster, made it the best bang for the buck ever. Shame the system I bought on eBay didn't fit!

Hi Fly
Why don't you try and make it fit. Some cutting, welding, adjusting and grinding. I bought the Chinese headers and back box for my Boxster S 2002 and they fit and sound great. But if they didn't I would have set too and made them fit for the low cost I payed.
