Boxster S 2003 very stiff clutch
Hello all, I have an issue with my 2003 BoxsterS, My clutch pedal is extremely stiff, I had a new clutch(genuine Porche ) installed by a Porsche specialist about 18 months ago and although once changed it was slightly better, I presumed that it was correct not having anything to compare it to. In the last few months the clutch has got even stiffer
I took my car back and he pulled out my clutch and took it to the official Porsche dealership, they checked and said the clutch was almost like new. He also stripped the entire clutch pedal housing to see if the spring was perhaps broken, however everything checked out fine. I have trawled most of the forums and most of them say if the clutch is very stiff it needs replacing, but clearly not in my case. I did read one forum where someone had the same issue and changed the master and slave cylinder I haven't requested my mechanic to do that as yet, I first wanted to check hear if anyone here had any ideas. |

How many miles on the car? If the clutch checks out it could be the slave cylinder or the line to the slave cylinder.
Was the throw out bearing replaced when the clutch was done?

Ditto on the throwout bearing. That is the part that usually causes a clutch to be stiff. It should have been changed when the clutch was done but if it was not for some reason then it is almost certainly your problem.

Thanks guys, i'll check on the bearing, just so I am sure is the 'throwout bearing' what we would call the release bearing?

I know this is a slightly old thread..but...
Just curious... did you have bearing replaced? How much did it cost? I am in exactly the same situation as you. New clutch at around 45k miles when I bought the car. Now at 51k miles. Even since replacement, LN bearing upgrade etc stuff is still way too stiff. Mine is a 2003 S so same car as yours. I would love to know if you did master/slave cyl too or not... thanks! comet |
