Thumbs up Just bought 2000 boxster s

Hi,
Just bought this baby for the summer with 78,000miles.

the paint was so nasty and I tought I will have to paint the car. BUT after 5 hours of work and 2 layers of polish and 2 layers of wax the paint looks like new

Have some issues to fix:
1. there is a noise from the rear right when passing on bumps. any ideas?
2. when moving from 2 to 3 gear i feal a little bang (tiptronic), could it be the engine mount?
3. I see an oil leak. I need to clean the engine to see where it comes from. any known places for boxsters?
4. speakers - it seems that one of the owners before did a stupid job and chancheled the front speakers. put only tweeters. now I need to set a new 4" speakers but don't have the old speakers to use them as a base. any idea how to do it? or I must buy used speakers from ebay?

I will post pictures later.

Thanks guys
Yaron

One more thing.
When I'm starting the car COLD it start after 3 second starter spinning. not fast but ok. when the car is HOT (and sitting above 5-10 minutes) it starts after some starter spinning and on the second try with a little press on the gas pedal.
What can it be?

Thanks,
Yaron

Oil leak would depend on where it is originating. Worst case "RMS" Rear Main Seal. Not so bad "Spark Plug Tubes"

Tranny mounts can go making a clunking sound.

They can also leak their fluid which looks like oil.

Clean up the engine and look for the oil -- also
put a piece of card board or something down where
you can see the drops.

Depending on mileage -- consider replacing the water pump -- or at least have one handy,
they can last 30k miles or forever.

The other clunking source can be the engine mount. They go bad as well.
Had one go on my Boxster S 6sp -- but didn't realize it -- and once I did
figure it out -- it had also worn my tranny mounts.

BTW, I like the 82 SC, but was amazed at how small/tight they are inside -- esp
considering my Boxster was a DD for 4 year!

After you check you ball joint and all components and if it checks out, check the bushing at the end of the strut bar. That can be your noise. It seems to always sound like it is coming from your strut assembly. You might have to buy a set of speaker housings from Ebay. Most of the time people have to modify the plastic housing to install after market speakers. There are some good suggestions on the oil leaks from the other members but also check the bottom of the AOS where it is attached to the engine. Often the o ring seal might leak there. As far as the starting condition, It could be anything. Often a crank sensor will start to display those symptoms you speak of. However I have come across many fuel delivery problem on these cars.I have even come across a very dirty air filter almost have displayed the same symptoms.Remember always remove the filter and turn it upside down to check because the top of the filter will look clean.
