When I gently depress the brake pedal the brake lights don't activate. As pressure is applied the brake lights come and will stay on as long as the amount of pressure doesn't change. As the pressure on the pedal increases the lights go back out. Sound like this switch??

That is definitely odd behavior for a switch. This switch does control the brake lights so I would replace this first and see if that fixes the problem.

brake lights
I had the same problem with my 2001 "S".. Be sure to get the stock factory switch, and not an online one. They don't work! Those suckers are hard to get at!
