1998 Boxter won't turn over
 

Does the boxter have an oil sensor that won't let the car turn over if the oil is to low, I have put two quarts in and it still did not touch the stick. instruments all come on, checked every fuse, battery has full charge, clutch switch seems to be in place there is no click or anything when you turn the key to start.

Put your shifter in neutral.Push your clutch down as hard as you can then try it again.. Sounds like a clutch switch. Or start relay. Key ?;)

first thing I did was the clutch neutral thing, was thinking it could be an oil sensor considering its at least 4 quarts low called them a murphy switch on the old engines

was not really referring to that car specifically just some engines in general which was Y I was asking if this car might has something of the same

I don't think it does but I could be wrong. Some of the vehicles i have a work have The Murphy system.But are heavy duty vehicles. The first think i would test is the switch. remove the plug see if you have current or continuity on one side and then the other side when applied.

The question is, do you know where the oil went? 4qts is a Gallon of oil.. it simply wont vaporize... the oil pressure indicator would have come on.

that is a good question, I know it had not been checked for quite a while, my wife drives this car, and I know it does use some, it has a oil level indicator on the dash but it read full. which I guess is why it didn't get checked.

So you tried the neutral thing, but you could have a bad switch. Might want to try jumpering the switch just to make sure.

Also need to check battery voltage with ignition off, and then again when turning key to start. It takes lots less power to turn on dash lights than it does to try and start the car.

So how do I jump the Clutch switch, can I just jump the yellow and brown wires that connect to the switch? I did connect a 30 fuse to these two wires and still nothing. I did try to check continuity on the clutch switch, and I get nothing, both with clutch engaged and disengaged. The Battery is fine its brand new. I have checked the electronic box under the seat, I think its the security system, nothing looks burnt, someone said to replace the 15 amp fuse but there is no fuse in the box, I have also checked the ignition rely in the trunk, replacing it with another, still nothing. I check the (started/ignition) fuse in the fuse panel under the dash (30) amp and its fine too.
So what's next???

Who drove it last, was it making noise? and have you tried cranking it over with a wrench on the crankshaft? My nephews once drove a Maverick until it seized, then filled it up with oil and called me when "it won't crank over". It was scrap, even more than when it was on the showroom floor. I am shooting in the dark here as I don't know if you can access a manual crank over spot. Disconnect the battery before trying that for safety reason.
