2000 Boxster S Codes help please
The check engine light is on. An Actron code reader gave me three codes--1) P0507, 2)P1128, and P1130. In my reading the P1128 suggests that it may be the "fuel air sensor". the P1130 suggests it may be the Oxygen sensor but to check the previous codes first. The car sat for several months while I was changing the water pump. The first time I drove it after putting it back together there was no check engine light. The next time it came on and is staying on. Prior to the water pump change the check engine light would come on periodically and then when the car was shut off for about five minutes and restarted warm would go out. Since I know that when I first acquired the car I overfilled the oil on the first oil change I suspect that the Mass Air Flow sensor got a thin coat of oil that caused the problem and that cleaning the MAF would solve the problem. Any suggestions?

The P0507 is for the idle speed being too high (possible causes are throttle valve is sticking or there are leaks in the air intake system).
Is your code reader a basic model, or did it tell you which code set the CEL? The other codes are fuel trim related, so if you're having an intake leak (past the MAF sensor) then the fuel trim is going to show that it's compensating for the lean condition by forcing the fuel trim to be rich (in order to balance out things). P1128 is for Bank 1 being adjusted rich due to a lean condition at idle. P1130 is for Bank 2. The easiest thing to do is to check for vacuum leaks first before ripping into things. Don't reset the codes -- let the DME reset them after it does its testing. DME = Engine Mgt Computer. Regards, paul...

Thanks Paul--- I have checked for leaks and can't find any but I'll check again. I haven't yet reset the codes and really don't want to do so. Any suggestions of where the leaks could occur?

mass air flow sensor
I had codes 1128 and 1130. First they replaced the o2 sensors, it didn't go away. Turned out to be the mass air flow sensor. Buy it here and save lots of money if that is what you need. Dealer wants about 600 for one.

Paulv,
If the cel codes aren't reset with the code reader, is there a number of start cycles that need to happen before the DME will reset or turn off the cel? |
