Question Cayman noise, awful scary noise,

I am attaching a link to a recording of the awful scary expensive sounding noise of my son's Cayman. He had just had an independent shop do a flywheel/clutch replace less than 1500 miles ago. We had just finished the brake replacement and I heard this bad noise.
The shop claims to have inspected the IMS, but we are going to do this repair ourselves and will inspect to see if they really inspected it. I don't think there was a charge on the bill for inspecting, and I doubt they even breath in the customer's presence without charging for the CO2.
What is this God awful noise? - YouTube
This washed us out of the VIR DE June 15-16l

Thanks for your inputs. Sapientoni

FWIW, I had a 2003 mercedes c320 with a 6 speed zf that made a similar noise when the clutch pedal was up and no gear was selected. I took it to an independent shop and had them replace the clutch and inspect things inside to try and find the noise issue. I had thought it would be the flywheel or pilot bearing. They claimed everything looked normal and thought the problem was internal to the transmission.
So then I decided to take it to the dealer, they told me the same thing and offered to sell me a $3000 transmission. But ironically after picking up the car from the dealer the car never made that noise again. They didn't even charge me.

Exclamation found it, not good! Not good at all.

Today we drained the oil for a look and the Alaskan gold miners would throw rocks at one another to find as much gold as we had in the filter. I suspected the IMS bearing as I had driven the car a few weeks ago and it was making the strange noises that others have described as the warning noises. I'll give props to the independent shop near Raleigh NC that claimed to have inspected the IMS a few weeks ago. I suspect they changed the dual mass flywheel that probably had nothing wrong with it but knew their limitations and sent it out without even checking the IMS bearing. They also changed the front engine mount and I had inspected it upon acquisition of the car and it looked good at that time. It is fortunate that no other damage has taken place yet and the engine is going to get a refurb and is expected to be good for another 140,000 miles.

Exclamation

Heres a pic of 145,000 mile 2006 Cayman S IMS bearing failed. A young engineer and I were discussing bearings and the 6305 RS in the 2006 series is rated about 6,500lbs. and 13,000 rpm. The engineer said at lower rpms, the loading would be higher and failure earlier. This may explain the track cars living and the garage queens dying early

Cool 145,000 mile Cayman S leakdown

I am attaching a pic of the leakdown test. Other than IMS, this engine is awesome! Thrust bearing checked out at .05mm.......minimum clearance when new!
