Driver Window doesn't drop with handle
Hi All SmileWavy,
Just bought an 00 Boxster S with 41k on the odo. I noticed the driver's window doesn't drop to clear the roof line when you pull the door handle, both outside and inside (pass side works fine). You can tell the motor moves the window VERY slightly though. I thought it could be the window regulator even though the window goes up/down with the buttons and the key/lock/hold function just fine, but another tell tale sign is the radio stays on when the car is shut off, making me think it's a micro controller (not exactly sure which part this is yet). Any ideas? Thanks in advance, I'm so stoked to own my first Porsche. :D |
Mine did that (but on both sides) and I replaced the micro switch up where the handle locks into the roof but it didn't fix the problem. I disconnected the battery and that didn't fix it. Finally, I pulled the giant relay for the top (drivers kick panel) and put it back in after a couple minutes and it has been fine every since.
Before I spent any money, I'd try pulling and replacing the relay. Vince |
Can you hear the motor move when you pull the inner or outer handle lightly (activating the micro switch)?
If so then its the regulator...... An easy check is to manually latch the door with the door open with the window all the way up..... the window will go will go up the last 1/4” when it latches.... Then open the door with the handle, if the window doesn't move down push lightly down on the window, if out goes down that half inch its definitely the regulator. If the wellsite doesn't move at all id suspect one of the micro switches. It is common for the regulators to fail like this, I have replaced 100+ of them over the years..... If out is the regulator o strongly suggest using OEM from Porsche, the handful of non OEM ones we've used have failed within 2 years..... |
I might have been lucky but I had the same problem shortly after buying an '00 boxster. After hours scanning forums I found a simple solution.
Try holding both window buttons up for 30 seconds and then down for 30 seconds. That resets the windows. Give it a try before ripping things apart. Hope it works! |
Im with Bell, I had to replace both regulators, but of course try the easy things first as suggested by others
