Few months ago the Ignition switch started sticking in the starting position on my 2001 boxster with 113k. Lights would not work unless click back one notch to normal driving position manually. Also key would get stuck in.

Then Key would come out and radio and power would still be on. Drained battery once. Whole other issue since charger was in the locked electric trunk. Had to start pulling key out fast.

Last night I got stranded. Car would not turn over. Finally after banging ignition and jiggling key it eventually started.

Posting this so people will be aware. I plan to order parts and replace.

Sounds like you have both a mechanical problem with the key and possibly a bad spring loaded electrical ignition switch

You need to replace the electrical portion of the switch.

Had the same problem, followed these instructions using the Audi part and fixed the issue: Replace Ignition Switch
