loose hose under front hood
Hi, I've owned my new (as in 160,000 mi) 2004 Boxster base for a week, so please bear with me as as newbie. Filled up the tank yesterday and this morning had strong smell of gas in garage. So read forum, was about to go hunting under the battery tray when I noticed next to the battery a loose plastic hose with a black hollow cap on it on the passenger side bundled to the wire harness and disappearing into the fender side along an A/C pipe. Probably a vent or intake, but just in case, a) what is it and b) is it supposed to be connected to something or just hanging around.

F it's the diameter of a pencil, it's likely a vent line for battery

Thanks--that got me onto the right information and that's exactly what it is--except now there is a maintenance-free battery in there, so it was just dangling. Not related to the gas smell at all, but that mystery is solved.
