You need to find some one in your area that has a Porsche system 2 or Durametric meter. If in fact there is problem with the key it will be recorded in the fault memory. And that would stop your guessing. I have a un programed key for my 911. If i insert it in my ignition and try to start nothing will happen. My system 2 tester will record the fault. It usually says(wrong key)

I had a problem with my 04 Boxster. I have two keys and they both did the same. The key opened the doors, the ignition turned on but the car would not crank. Sometimes if I held the key in the start position, it would crank after 10-15 seconds. Took it to the dealer. He said clutch switch or ignition switch. Apparently the key receiver is part of the ignition switch. Anyway $650 later and the car starts every time, instantly. Don't know if this helps... good luck
