DME...sure could use some help

Hello,
I am working on an 01 Boxster.
I ended up having to take it to the Porsche Dealer, they tell me that the "DME" that is in the car is not the correct one for this car and that it must be from an earlier model due to it being for a car that has a throttle cable and the 01 not using a cable...
My question is...is the Porsche Dealer able to "REFLASH" the "DME" I have, or must I purchase a NEW or REBUILT "DME"?

I hope I am stating my question so it may be understood.
Would someone please HELP
Thanks in advance

Rob

It is going to be a different DME all together. The early dme didnt have pins designated to control the throttle body.

Thank you Travis.

Lots of details missing on what you are trying to do & how the dealer determined you have the wrong DME. Sounds like they took your money & sent you away.

Remove the lining in your trunk & get the number off your DME to see what you actually have.

Actually, they did tell him why he has the wrong DME....

"...from an earlier model due to it being for a car that has a throttle cable and the 01 not using a cable..."

He didnt even specify that he was charged, or that they sent him away.

Thank you again Travis,

The dealer (Circle Porsche Long Beach Ca.) diagnosed the problem, put a new DME in it, along with (2) two new key fobs/transponders and (1) one key shank, reprogrammed it and some other minor things and it cost $3807.35
I am happy to have the car running, might have been a bit steep but for me...The guys at the dealer were GREAT to work with.:)

Any one looking for a (good) early DME with (1) one key fob/transponder #996.618.605.00 (Bosch) open to offers 8~)
