The most useful is the original OEM 13 volume set from Porsche. Long out of print, you can still find them from time to time. Next would be the Bentley; not as detailed or as complete as the OEM set, but easier to find and a lot cheaper.

Are manuals for the recent models available in any form except to the dealer/OPC? Are they part of the diagnostic computer now?

Mike,

I don't know about "very" recent, but I got [full] service info (including OBD2 data) from an AllDataDIY subscription for my '07 Boxster. My town's library has a subscription to the pro version of Mitchell On Demand and I used that to pull all my wiring diagrams (Mitchell re-writes wiring diagrams for their specialized wiring system). I believe that Mitchell still offers individual vehicle subscriptions (similar to AllDataDIY). These subscriptions are in the $25 - 35 range with yearly renewals that are around $15 (good for TSB lookups).

Regards,
paul...
