Boxster Front Brakes

'97 Boxster. Brake wear light just went on. Knew front pads were getting low when inspected last spring. Do I need to replace with OEM or is there a better alternative? Only drove a few miles after warning light came on. Likely or not that discs also need replacement? If so, any band recommendation?

I had used Beck Arnley pads with a set of new rotors and they squeaked no matter what I did to try to correct it. I purchased a set of Dura Last Gold (made in the USA) pads. They worked fine and stopped much faster then the Beck Arnley pads. Maybe the first set of pads I purchased was defective. The Dura Last pads are life time guaranteed. Meaning you can get a new set of pads when you wear the pads out.

Lots of choices. For a street car I recommend Textar or Hawk.

Measure the rotors to see if they need to be replaced or not. If they have plenty of material left, no need to spend money on new.

I just replaced the front pads on my 2000 Boxster S with Ate pads from our host. They seem to work fine, but I have limited miles on them. I agree with measuring the rotor thickness to see if they are at their limit or not. Why throw the money away if new rotors are not needed? I measured mine and at 66K miles they still have quite a bit of life left in them!

Front brakes

Thanks from responses. tried to order Textar pads but out of stock at Pelican, so am getting Pagid instead. Measured rotors and they're shot. have to replace them too. oh well, nobody ever said owning a Porsche was cheap, or easy.
