air-oil separator

My 98 Boxster was having a rough idle issue. After researching this forum for answers I found Wayne's post from 2011 regarding Boxster's AOS and how to fix it. Engine idles much better when I pulled out a hose connecting AOS to intake valve and plugged both holes tight as suggested by Wayne.
Wayne had mentioned "If you disconnect the hose and plug both ends, then the oil can't be sucked into the intake at all. This is an emissions device, and it will not affect performance at all. Just make sure that your covers / blocks are firmly seated, otherwise you will create a vacuum leak (either manifold for the one on the throttle body, or crankcase, for the one on the air-oil-separator). If you follow this procedure, you should be pretty safe." Is this safe? I need drive around locally for a few days until I can get the part and my mechanic's 30 miles away.
