Cayman L Side Window Not Dipping
Anyone know what makes the side window dip just before it closes, then close under the rubber molding at the top? I can get mine to dip by pulling the outer or inner door handles, but whatever makes it dip on it's own when you close the door isn't working. Clearly, there is a switch rigged into the door latch mechanism, but what triggers it when the door is about to close and neither handle is being pulled?

In the 986 Boxster there are several microswitches, one in the inner door handle and one in the outer, that tell the computer that the door is opening and to drop the window.
Once the door is open, the microswitch in the door lock assembly tells the computer that the door is open, and it keeps the window down. When you shut the door, then the switch tells the computer that the door is shut, and the window goes back up. If your window drops when you open the door, but immediately goes back up, then it is probably that microswitch. On the 986 boxster that switch is not sold separately; you have to get the whole door lock mechanism. There is a thread on here that discusses another possible way to fix this, which may be helpful to you: SOLUTION for the Doorlock failure before you buy new mechanism I need to try it because my passenger window does this exact same thing. I have a new/used lock assembly but I just haven't gotten in there to fix it yet. Steve |
