Why do you want to know when it was made?

because I was told this particular engine was built with a diamond impregnated shaft bearing... it was special order by an oil shake that spared no expense.

Porsche Engine numbers deciphered. No Enigma Machine required

Bob ,
I have your info but also a recommendation.

1. JFP is the best adviser we have here.He is not a concierge even though he speaks French. He is an oracle. He is extraordinarily generous with his time and advice - even to the newest and most inept. His advice is totally reliable and priceless. Just read some of his lengthy posts on extricating hapless souls fumbling with IMS issues. So if he asks you a question to help you, your sarcasm marks you out as unworthy of future help. I'll offer you an olive branch.
2. Your engine number :
a simple Google search provides this in milliseconds:
http://www.porscheclubgb.org/clientftp/Register/996/faq_engine_transmission_codes.pdf
3.If your question is about IMS , the engine number does not help in some years, nor the VIN. And your interior photo from 2008 is irrelevant bandwidth. If the IMS is one of the many retrofits then neither y.o.m. nor engine number may be relevant.
4. So as JFP kindly asks - what are you trying to learn ? Then we can help you because engine numbers are unreliable because Porsche kept unreliable records.

I suggest you contact PCNA and purchase a certificate of authenticity and ask for the engine build date and if there were any special order requests with the build. You may not get the info you want BTW...even after paying your $100 bucks for the certificate.

I asked for the manufacture date because I wanted to know the manufacture date.. period...As far as engine issues I'm not concerned. I have done my own duedilligence including talking to the class lawyer on the phone. I have owned and restored Porsches since the late 60's. I have faith in Porsche.... even having gone thru the era of collapsing chain tensioners and broken plastic chain ramps....your millisecond google search was the same one I got that does not answer my question.... I'm 66 years old and I have found that often when people answer your question with a question ...its their agenda that they want to introduce or skew.... as to the picture.... I don't post much and don't know how things are going to populate.... I actually thought the picture was going to be a thumb nail under my name..... It's actually a 2005 Boxster "s" with the Sirius radio custom installed by me in the lower covey hole...... look closely there is more to this install than meets the eye....
