Swap Meet: The swap meet brings together buyers, sellers, collectors, and window shoppers for Porsche parts, tools, Porsche related literature, Porsche memorabilia, and Porsche art. At a swap meet you can find such things as a door handle for your ‘57 Speedster, velocity stacks for Weber carbs, dealer new parts, markdowns, back issues of Panorama, Christophorus, Excellence, etc., or perhaps some Porsche factory racing posters, a club shirt, a window sticker from a past Parade, a front spoiler for a 914, or some carefully hand-made jewelry & artwork. Movies, books, 356 Carrera distributor caps, and once in a while a complete car ready for restoration, are all waiting at swap meets. Sometimes just strolling the aisle triggers something in your memory that screams “I need this!” And that’s the beauty of this event. You don’t have to be looking for something specific to enjoy seeing what people have had tucked away in their garage for years. More importantly, if you’re the one with the parts stored away for some unknown future date, this might be that time. Remember - One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Proper etiquette tells us that when such an event is hosted at a car dealership, roadworthy used cars should not be offered for sale by other than the dealer host, regardless of vintage.

Concours: The Concours is a beauty contest. Proud owners of Porsche-only vehicles meticulously prepare their car for scrutiny by a team of judges who will examine each area of the car with an eye toward absolute cleanliness, originality, and maintenance. The Concours is an opportunity for the owners to spend some quality time with their Porsche, cleaning, polishing, and waxing the paint, applying minimal amounts of preservative to rubber components, cleaning and vacuuming the carpets both in the trunk and in the passenger compartment and removing film build up from all glass surfaces. A deep vacuuming should also include areas under the carpets and seats, under the trunk mat, inside the glove box, air vents, door pockets, seat cushions, dash cover, and instrument cluster and controls. The owner should include polishing of wheel surfaces, cleaning of road dirt from outer tire surfaces only, and removal of all items from the car. Dust, dirt, grease, waxy build ups, and excessive wear or abuse of fabrics and parts are the primary enemy. Judges will look into nooks and crannies for any dust. This is a “ground up” inspection so you do not need to worry about your undercarriage.

A properly presented car will have only the owners manual in the glove box, and the spare tire, jack, and original tool kit in the luggage compartment. All other items should be left out of sight at a location not visible to the judges. Seat belts will be properly retracted, sun visors up, cellular phones and radar detectors removed, and a set of Porsche car keys in the ignition. When the car is judged, the presenter must be standing ready to start the engine, operate all the lights, and toot the horn.

One fatal mistake in preparation often made by the novice is applying too much preservative to surfaces such as the tires, rubber trim, and interior. Remember how the car looks on the showroom floor. Surfaces are not covered with slick, glistening pools of Armour all. Rather they present a natural and velvety appearance. If a little is good, then more is better absolutely does not apply in Concours.

Concours is divided into classes. Ours is a TOP, or SURFACE as it is sometimes called, style Concours and includes the complete exterior body work, paint, glass, rubber, wheels and tires, full interior, inside of the engine compartment, top of the engine, luggage areas including all corners and compartments under the truck carpeting, spare tire, tools, battery, and A/C condenser & front heater boxes, door jambs, fuel filler opening (but not the underside of the car, obverse of wheels and tires, suspension, or obscured bodywork - these are for FULL). TOP is broken down into groups by model and year.

For Octoberfest ‘02, the Concours will be TOP for Porsches ONLY, and divided into six (6) classes as follows:
Class 1: 911 Early - from 1965 through 1988
Class 2: 911/930 Late - from 1978 through 1998
Class 3: New Cars 99 through 03, includes Boxster
Class 4: All 356 & 914
Class 5: All water-cooled 4 cyl and 8 cyl (924/931/944/951/968/928)

Race cars will be classed with their respective year group and model.

BBQ Dinner Party: Saturday 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM, we will host a gala casual BBQ dinner party at the Osprey Point Sub Division Club House located just off San Pablo Road between Beach and Atlantic Blvd. If you need directions call Ken Perry’s cell phone 923-2677. The evening’s usual charge has been waived for this year. Tickets will be drawn for door prizes, including a free registration to Driver’s Education at Roebling Road Raceway in 2002-2003.

Autocross: Autocrossing is a test of driver skill on a tight, twisting, low speed course. One car at a time passes through a course of orange pylons (called “gates”) as quickly as possible. Each car makes several runs through the course, and is electronically timed to the hundredth of a second. Fastest time wins. Cars are grouped in classes by performance potential rather than experience. Displacing or knocking down any cone incurs an additional 2 second penalty. The fastest drivers in each class win a trophy. The single fastest driver from all classes receives an FTD (Fastest Time of Day) trophy.

Zone 12 rules are the same as Parade Competition rules regarding the conduct of the event, and the safety equipment required for each vehicle.

All drivers must wear a 1995 or newer Snell Foundation Approved (SA or MA, 95 or newer) certified safety helmet (no bicycle, construction, or aircraft helmets). The club does not provide loaner helmets due to liability concerns. Full shoes must be worn - no sandals, flip-flops, slippers, high heels, or any design considered “open” or unsafe. NO EXCEPTIONS. Drivers should dress appropriately for the weather.

All drivers must register, sign the waiver, and complete the safety inspection before the scheduled mandatory driver’s meeting. NO EXCEPTIONS.
