Couple questions from a newbie
Newbie here with a couple questions. Hopefully someone can help me out.
I have a 1998 boxster with 109000 miles on it. 1. Did an oil change, new crush washer and new plug. Torgued to 37ft lbs and still have a small leak from plug area. Any suggestions? 2. Can anyone tell me what these are and where they go? ![]() 3. This other picture is under the car obviously and I am pretty sure thats the flywheel I see there. Is it normal to be able to see it like this? ![]() Thanks in advance. Any and all comments/hepl greatly appreciated. Marco |

The two plastic covers snap on to the pushrod assemblies of your convertible top. If you stand on either side of your car, with the top down, you will see the rods that attach between the top transmission (like a little gearbox) and the top frame. The cover snaps on the rods and hides them from view.
I can't really understand what I'm looking at in your second picture. You have your drain plug torqued correctly, if your torque wrench is accurate. You can try to snug it a bit more but be very cautious as you're dealing with aluminum. |

thanks. I think i will try snuggign it up a little and see what happens.
the picture you are unsure of is from under the car. its the point where the transmission joins the engine. (view is from the bottom looking up) if that helps. got the top trim installed. thanks a million! |

The torque value for the drain plug is 50 Nm (37 ft-lb). One time I forgot to reset the value on my torque wrench after tightening the oil filter which has a lower torque setting. I caught myself before I filled the car with oil. Also, your torque wrench could need to be re-calibrated.
Also, are you absolutely sure that the drain plug is leaking? Is it possible that the oil is leaking somewhere else and just collecting near the plug? These cars seem to develop seepage in a number of places over time. |

Aluminum crush washers are a one time use. Once torqued down they harden like an aluminum rivet. Anneal. Depending on how big leak I would clean the area and drain into a clean container and check seating surface and then a new washer. Your decision of course.
