I'm confused - this isn't how I thought it worked

I had my 2000 S, Tip on the lift and the back wheels would spin while in park, they would spin opposite directions & if you held one wheel you couldn't turn the other, no real problem there to my understanding but I had always thought that Park locked everything up. What am I missing here?

Nope.
It just stops your transmission from turning.
If you have LSD it would work like you think.
