Convertible Top, Stuck Open
I'm new to Boxster and just picked up a 97' with a broken top. I replaced two broken levers that raise the clam shell and got that to work right, but top is not connected. I lowered the top manually, closed the clam shell with the dash switch and now the clam shell will not open. The motor pulled it tight till the motor bogged down and now is stuck. It's trying to pull it tighter but it's closed all the way already. I have a feeling, the transmissions have not gone through their complete cycle. How to reverse them or they can't be reversed? Any ideas?
I'll be asking about cables and connecting to top in my next posting. Thanks. Bob |

Update
... I was able to remove the clips and pins on the levers and now the clam shell can be lifted by hand. The motor now spins the transmissions freely. So, there must be something (micro switch) to tell the motor when to stop? Is this the micro switch (yellow) and can it be adjusted. It does click, forward and backwards. Thanks. Oh, by the way. Is this held on with pop rivets (red) and the top trim piece held on by pressing into the rubber grommets (blue)?

Yes, I've found that tech article in my research. It has helped me learn more about these tops. The problem I had was that, with the top down, the clam shell only wanted to close tighter. Once I removed the tension (removed pins), the switches on the dash would allow to move in both directions. Strange. I did discover the broken white plastic cup ends so, I'll get new ones and start again.
Thanks for the response. Bob |
