interior Door handle snap

Pulled on my handle (car handle inside the car and heard a snap. Now the interior handle wobbles a bit and remote lock isn't working. Is it a cable/spring? Any suggestions for part no. For 2001 boxster?

Sure, there's a plastic piece on the end of the door handle that can break. I'm out of town right now, so I don't have access to the PN lookup, but you can see the procedure for getting into the door and fixing the handle in these two articles:

ok thanks for the reply i was out of town too. I've got the door panel off, i thought i'd find a broken cable, but the cable seems intact. The 'inside' door handle doesn't pull fully closed, which is where the problem lies. Where is this plastic piece or do you have any other ideas where i should look for the problem? thanks wayne.

i'm still having trouble getting the door locking mechanism out. it's still attached to the handle apparently. Do i blindly stick my hand in there and try and detach the connection?

i'm stumped on how to release the door handle actuating rod from the door lock mechanism. I have my hand fishing in there, but can't figure out how to release it....

i think my attempts to get to the locking mechanism turned out to be a waste of time. There was a spring that was broken that is the culprit i believe. This spring is about 6 inches long, and is hooked on one end, and has a broken end with no hook. This spring was a bit hidden as it was insulated in cloth on the inside door panel that i detached. Can someone give me a part number so I can order this spring--its for a 2001 boxster s. ty.

well, i've resolved this one myself i think--it was the tension spring.....part no. 99952201500

Pelican Parts - Product Information: OEM-99952201500

do the hooks on these tension springs break frequently? I didn't even get to the plastic piece in the door locking mechanism, but this spring seems to have been the source of my problem.

Thanks. I suspect it's the 100 degree weather that wore that hinge out, maybe.

Garage
Inner Door handle spring

Yup just happened to me last Friday, heard a snap and now there is no tension on the inner door handle. Put the car in the garage left for the weekend and came back from the cottage to a dead battery... Seems the spring also holds the switch that controls the door panel lights shut... Oh well.

Gonna order some springs. Thanks for the part number can you reload the image?

Thanks.

Tony
