engine problem 987 2008

Hi
I have a 2008 Boxster with 75,000 miles
I drove the vehicle at 40 mph
Suddenly I felt a slight hit from behind and started out thick white smoke exhaust
I went to the garage and before he even checked the box he said he had to replace an engine.

Does it make sense :confused::confused:
Vehicle treated regularly, my engine is 97/20

Thanks

The man didn't say why, just that he felt he had to? Ask the mechanic why he said that, what test led to that conclusion?
