Red face Help !! ECU ??

Hi Guys, Newbie here NEEDS HELP !!!

ok' just bought a2000 boxster 5speed, 103k's on clock
was driving fine up Untill I got a new sound system installed
now it goes into limp mode' sometimes while Im driving sometimes
also rev's be itself on start up and sometimes while driving
sent it to some Porsche guys in Sydney, they been looking at it
(around 6/7hrs labour)
They told me they pulled nearly every sensor out and cleaned them and can't track it back to anything but the ECU' (They Think)

so I asked them will it fix the problem 100% - they telling me nothing 100%
they priced me at $3609AUD + GST + 1hr to reprogram - ($125 per\hour)
I asked why can't I buy a 2nd hand ECU -

this is what they tell me

the new ECU has to be programed to the VIN on my car, and it's only works with my car after its programed - That's why I can't buy a 2nd hand ECU because it won't work with my VIN

Is this a Load Of BS or WHAT ???

anyways I'm very confussed as to why I can't put in a 2nd hand ECU in my boxster
which I see many on ebay for $150 - $600USD

Please help !!!!

I think what has to happen is that your need to have an immobilizer, key and ecu from the same donor.

In that sense they are all (already) programmed together.

I don't know if your problem is ECU related or not. Nevertheless, there are shops in the US that can rebuild ECU for less than $1000 US. One such place is ECU Doctors in Florida. You can Google them. That's about 1/3rd of the cost your local shop is quoting. Perhaps, there are similar shops in Australia.

What diagnostic equipment does this Porsche shop use? Why do they say ECU?

Disconnect the new sound system at every point where it gets power, touches ground. Resecure any wires that might have been disturbed in the installation process. See the effect.

Before you start throwing expensive parts at the problem, assume it is something associated with the last thing disturbed. The current problem could be a coincidence but a higher probability it isn't.

I'm not sure what tools they have, they told me they unplugged every sensor and even put in a new fly by wire and they can't find any problems and they also said that the Ecu had a sticker on it saying it's been serviced,

Anyways I found a 2nd hand ECU with Key barrel and immobiliser on eBay for $550 which they told me will work,

Will let you know what happens

Thanks !!

Sounds like the stereo hookup compromised the electrical system in some way, can you disconnect it and check the wiring?
