Exclamation Ignition Switch Woes

Just purchased 2001 986. I find there is issues with the electrical module on the ignition switch as if not manually returned back about 1/8" then fan, wipers and god no's what else doesn't work. Found that this was draining the battery as we.. Is this common?
Next day check engine light came on but not battery light. Checked oil and it was fine. Driving home stopped at store for dinner and then car would not start. Battery dead. Jumped it to get home. Put charger on and ran alternator test and came up "0". Does anyone know if the faulty switch can effect charging system or do I have 2 separate problems? HELP PLEASE.
Have I purchased a Lemon?

Not a Lemon, Most likely a simple switch replace/repair.

Changed the electrical

portion of the switch(broken) and put in brand new battery. Started car , 12.9 volts with lights on soon to drop to 12.3 in 2 minutes. No warning lights on dash. Any ideas?

Yes engine running, just drove it about 3.5 miles. Now at 12 volts and down to 11.9 with throttle. Ideas?

Sounds like a bad voltage regulator. Replacing it is easy, getting the alternator out so you CAN replace it is a royal pain. Pretty sure Pelican has a "how to" on the entire operation and will sell you the regulator for under 40 bucks...

A few more questions-
Would a bad voltage regulator result in a dash warning light coming on as in my case there are no warning light illuminating.
Does anyone know how long or how many miles it usually take to throw an OBD II code after the battery has been removed for a while (system cleared).

Hmm. How do you know these voltages are so low? Where are you measuring them and how? Yes, you should see a dash indicator.
