wayne: back your book up please

hi all;
jed at flat 6 said it would help to have the brain of the 2002 boxster s engine going into a 99 body. I bought the 2002 s motor b/c the 101 projects said it's not difficult for a trained mechanic. please agree. ive copied pertinent pages of your book but it's not specific enough for him.
ray t.

Who is your mechanic and what is his experience with Porsche engine swaps? (Who is "him").

Has he ever done a mechanical to e-gas throttle controls swap involving mating the newer block to the older controls? Has he ever done the wiring necessary to use the e-gas controls in a pre-e-gas car? Ever adapted an ECU from one car to an immobilizer from another? Ever adapted the early fuel supply system to the later non-return type?

The "trained mechanic" is one who understand the systems and their differences and so can adapt and anticipate the issues.

boxster s conversion problems

hi wayne;
mechanic is tom florio, owner of advanced automotive in new Windsor ny. he's done software mods and extensive engine work but swaps are out of his line (and most other Porsche mechanics ive found by calling half a dozen) . I got the engine b/c of confidence your book gave and my 2.5 was trash anyway. I called flat 6 among others (jed said they wont touch this area b/c of problems they've had) and your expertise is noteworthy as most Porsche mechanics have their comfort zones and this isn't one of them except out of necessity, which is what we have here. most readers would probably appreciate this if theyre in my position with an older boxster body in great condition and a blown engine. your book only glosses over the complexity of the problem. understandable as it's a magnum opus of mods available.

sorry to be long winded. the question is: do you have a punchlist of items needing changing or modification for the capable mechanic with limited expertise in this area? do I need to get an 's' brain and wiring (theyre available) or can the challenges be met without such? im an avid reader of the pelican website and love my boxster, which ive had for 11 years.

engine swap

sorry mike;
didn't realize you were responding to a question I posed to wayne. as another boxster affecinado do you have a checklist of steps necessary for swapping engines?
it doesn't feel particularly good to be hammered over the head with my mistakes. I think better of you as ive read your posts. do you have something constructive or are you just going to criticize my decisions and mechanic? how about some positive direction here?

I've given you hints about what the issues are that I've read about. Sorry I bothered.

Good luck.

thanks mike;
im glad you responded, will follow up on searches you recommended. planet 9 also helped. thanks wayne for picking up the thread. no tranny conversion problems, brain necessary, fuel and hose mods too. none of us can expect a book to cover all questions. the conversion is not that common altho it's a cheap alternative to finding a 3.4 engine that usually has to be rebuilt. an s engine and software and breathing mods will probably get around 275 hp.
