Clear engine cover
There has been some interest on another forum for clear engine cover, lately. There are couple of firms that make these covers for the Cayman's. The cost is high for these, or around $ 1000
I have made one for my Boxster DIY with double layer of lexan with two sheets of different thickness (4 and 5 mm). Got some some rubber liners for the edges that help st seal it up against the uneven mating surface for the original engine cover. Total material cost was around $ 500 but then everything is expensive where I live. The idea for different thickness in the two layers is to reduce sound level in the cabin, a known method used in sound isolation glass in houses. The engine gets a little louder but I have found out that if I put the original sound carpet back on it is no louder than with the original cover. So I keep the sound carpet folded behind the passenger seat, and put it on when DQ rides with me. And yes; it's my 3.6 engine, LN sleeved, with 997 intake manifold under the cover :-) ![]() Here ara some shots of some other commercially made clear cowers: ![]() ![]() ![]() And the Hip cover: ![]() And finally her is one from this guy Shehadehd on the 986 forum that has just made one, (wonder were he got the ide?):

I've wanted to do something like that for a while now and after seeing those pictures makes me want to do it even sooner! Are there any websites that you know of that sell them for boxsters?

Cool Idea. I saw Shehadehd's idea. Care to share how you made it? I have a 99 Boxster and am always up to a diy project.
