Wet Controls
 

I must have left my door cracked open on the way to my birthday party, preventing the window from sealing completely. Having gotten trashed at the party, I did not return to the car until the next day, after it rained steadily all night. The footwell of the driver's side is soaked and the light is lit on lock button located on the console. Everything seems to work, but the doors won't lock and the car won't start. Is it a matter of drying out the controls beneath the footwell, or are they toast the minute they get wet?

Hmm, this is a tough question. The Boxster should be somewhat 'water-resistant' seeing how it is a convertible.

But anyways, did you try to start the car already (I guess you did). If you try to operate things when they are wet, then you could have blown out a few fuses. Try checking/replacing the fuses and only operate the car when it's completely dry.

Odd that it won't start because it got wet there.

I finally got the car back from the dealer. Apparently the rear drains beneath the cover for the top were clogged, creating the overflow into the car. I give the germans a lot of credit for there engineering expertise, but this seems like a poorly designed system. If the drains clog, (it should be noted that my car certainly has not been subjected to any unusual circumstances to cause such an event) the water collects beneath the driver's seat which also houses the ignition controls, which must remain dry. There is also no drain benath the seat, so the water has no other option but to puddle and do as much damage as the precipitation allows. There oughta be a recall on this one.....
