Halfshaft questions

First trip to this forum. Joined today.
Was wondering if anyone can give me some advice regarding the following please?

I have bought an accident damaged Boxster. The accident had damaged hub carrier amongst other things and had pulled the driveshaft with half axle straight out the transmission.

Have got to the point where all damaged parts have been stripped off and replacements sourced.

Offered up the half shaft to the transmission (which is still in the car). It seems to be a very tight fit and will need some persuasion to get it into place?
My question is................is there a special tool for this, or best tips that any of you can provide for reinstalling the halfshaft. How much persuasion is generally required?

My other question concerns the metal "rings" (bearings) either side of the green ring on the half shaft. Are these meant to run smooth? Mine are a bit "notchy"

Thank you for any help.

Per the WSM these bearings will feel rough when turned when the hubs aren't installed in the trans. Be sure to use a new snap ring on the end of the half-shaft flange. It will take a bit of force to get the half-shaft seated in the trans as the snap ring has to compress down to allow the half-shaft to slip fully into the bore.

Thank you Mike. Yes rough is exactly how they feel compared to smooth. I will order a new snap ring as you stated, Much appreciated.

I'm no expert, never done this, but here are two clips from shop manual that should help. I'm sure someone with experience will chime in soon......

Edit: Thanks Mike, knew someone with experience would help!
