Transmission Failure??

I recently bought a 99 Boxster 986 with a Tiptronic Transmission; and on my drive home there was some sort of failure under the car. The result was a large quantity of fluid loss and smoke from this fluid hitting the hot exhaust. I had the car towed home and tried to move it on its own power. The car starts and runs great but will not move once in gear.

My question is "are there any known issues with the Tiptronic losing all ATF or with lines, filter, cooler failure etc." I am trying to get an idea of the repair cost before I bring it for repairs this spring.

Thank You in advance for your thoughts

Sounds like what happened to mine years ago and don't remember what the mechanic said but something cracked and was catastrophic, replaced the tranny with a used one. Realizing these cars are cheap and are a money pit. Good luck

Search for a video of an English TV series called "Wheeler Dealers" and find the Boxster episode. It may give you hope !Tiptronics are very robust

First thing........STOP RUNNING THE CAR WITH NO FLUID IN THE TRANS.
you'll damage it more if it isn't already too late......
You need to see where the fluid came out, could be as simple as a seal, or as bad as the pan has a big hole in it....

You seldom see complaints about the Boxsters TIP transmissions, especially since some are 15 years old. Owned 2 TIP cars, no issues here. And somewhere in recycle land my first is out there after a totaling of the car due to my distraction. 28k miles and still ran fine after the accident, just too much body repair so the insurance company made me a deal I couldn't refuse.

A list of recyclers.
