Radio turns on/off until car warms up

I have a 2000 Boxster with the standard CRD-220 radio. I have had the car for about 3 years.

When I first purchased, the radio would turn off and immediately back on about 1 minute or two after I first started the car. Then the radio would work perfectly for the rest of the day.

The problem has gotten much worse. Now, I have problems with the radio turning on/off multiple times and sometimes can't get it to turn on at all until the car is completely warmed up. 10/15 minutes of driving and the radio will work fine for the rest of the day.

Any ideas as to whether a problematic radio unit or some rely/short I should be attempting to chase down first?

Check/replace with new Fuse D1 ,7.5A .
Check fuse holder/terminals for corrosion looseness.
Check manual for other radio-related fuses.
hit the TP function key (owners manual)
Do you have other symptoms - speaker connections, horn, alarm?
A major upgrade/modern generic replacement is cheap & has many more features.
Consider replacing the ignition switch- it is a VW part available here @ Pelican. It is a frequent failure point. Cheap and easy to replace.
Most important,if you do find & fix the fault, please tell us so we can improve our knowledge base.
Good Luck!

Another possible problem is the contacts on the removable faceplate. Cleaning them with an eraser has cured similar problems.
