The parking brake light does not illuminate, should I replace the parking brake switch?

Comments: I have a 97 Boxster. The convertible top has been working perfectly since I purchased the car 3 years ago, however, I went to put the top up yesterday and it did not work nor did I hear the motor operating as I normally would. I have replaced the fuse and tried the button again to no avail. Looking for some trouble shooting tips to follow...
