radio CDR 220

I have a 2000 Boxster S. The rear speakers have quit working, they were never very strong ( I have had the car for 5 years). Now the radio will not turn on until the car has been driven for about 15 -30 minutes (when I purchased the car it came on at start up). I suspect that there are two things wrong. 1 the rear speakers, how do I test the amplifier to see if it is supplying the speakers with power? 2 how do i test the amplifier/radio the find the delay in coming up to power?

Is it possible that the rear speakers are aftermarket. If they are, the installer may have chosen to power them from the head unit since the stock amplifier has four channels and is used to power the dash and door speakers. I'd check to see if the connector on the roll bar behind the passenger seat or the one going into the radio needs to be re-seated. If the amp has been replaced with a six channel amp, my explanation would not help.

One frequent problem with the stock Becker units is that the electrical contacts on the removable faceplate become dirty and don't conduct power well. The technique for cleaning them is to use a regular pencil eraser.

Thanks for the reply.
It is a stock radio and rear speakers, it also has the digital unit. The connection at the roll bar is good, the speakers measure the correct ohms so the speakers are good. I think it is the amp (don't know if 4 or 6 channel), but don't know how to test the amp.
will try and clean the contacts and the fuse. But would like to know how to test the amp, and the different channels for out put.

It sounds like your car has the DSP - Digital Sound Processing - option. I have not had first-hand experience with that.

Here's a thread that may give you some ideas: DSP - Digital Sound Processing unit removal - 986 Forum - for Porsche Boxster Owners and Others

You may want to search on DSP and see what you find.
