New water pump issue
Just purchased a new water pump from Pelican and it appears to have surface damage from poor machining. I am in the process of exchanging it but they said the replacement looks similar.
See attached. Does that really look like its part of the design??

I just looked at mine and it looks okay. It's smooth all the way around although it appears that the machining was done in different steps as some places reflect differently than others.
I have the pierberg. |

That's a relief. Thanks for the reply.
These could be easily felt with the finger. |

So i just got another pump and the same imperfections are on this one. The entire surface is cleanly machined except for the areas in the photo. That cannot be by design.

I put mine in yesterday, no leaks so far. Again I didn't notice anything wrong with mine visually, I couldn't feel any rough spots on mine. I wonder if there was a bad batch or something from the factory.

Bought a different manufacturer pump and it had a perfectly machined surface.

A question of different sorts. I have had my water pump replaced twice in a 15,000 mile period. Car runs fine for a while. Doesn't overheat and gradually I start to see small puddles on the ground and I start filling the reservoir. Not much, but enough to be concerned. 1999 Boxster, 85 k miles. Great shape otherwise.

Crichardson, pull out the carpet from the trunk, check for leaks on the coolant tank.
