alarm control module 2001 boxster S

Hi,

What happened was that after a trip to dealer for unrelated issues (who is quite far away), the windows would not go down and boot wouldn't open. I decided to look at the alarm control module. I removed the seat, and pulled out the alarm control module. I saw the 15 amp fused was melted and pretty much the module looked shot. Despite the boot not opening, the windows not going down, and this melted fuse, the car still started and ran.

I purchased a new module, windows went down, boot opened, but car wouldn't start. I figured the module needed to be re-programmed, so I took out the new module, placed the old one in, and it still wouldn't start (although ac lights etc all went on).

During this process, I never fully 'seated' the module back in the home position, and left the seat sort of not fully 'seated' either, since I figured I'd reupoholster the seat.

The fact that both modules now are not able to start the car has me puzzled. Also, when I partially turn the key, the airbag light is the first to turn on.

My questions:
1.Does the module need to be fully seated (replaced back in the original position?) for the car to start?
2.Does the seat need to be completely seated for the car to start?
3.or is it that both modules now 'unprogrammed' , the original being unprogrammed after being detached?
4.If they are both unprogrammed, can I program with a durametric tool myself (if i make the purchase)? Unfortunately the dealer is an hour and a half away, and towing would be obscenely expensive.

Your help and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

update

seated the module--and placed seat (all but screwed the driver side seat in). Still won't start. tried jumping as well--nada. I've changed ignition switch before and starter, i think the issue is certainly related to 'immobilisation'

Save your money and take it to the Dealership, it all needs to be reset and synced up, if it is not damaged yet. Try search and there many threads on this.

Never thought I would say take it to the dealer.

The alarm modules will not work without being programed with the PIWIS system. Durametric, or anything else, will not work. You also should not be swapping modules around unless you know what you are doing and have access to the PIWIS, doing so makes the car think it is being stolen and goes into a lock down mode.

So get ready for a large towing bill...............

thank you. i also believe the problem requires re-programming of the immobilizer. But, any possibility what i've described could be the DME ignition relay in trunk? Can a defective/blown dme relay be diagnosed easily by eye?

With regard to the poor decision of removing the immobilizer, the old immobilizer had the 15 amp fuse inside it melted inside. when i tried to remove it, it basically collapsed inside the immobilizer, so that's when i thought i'd try to take the immobilizer out and replace it.

Also, the boxster manual describes removal of an electronic immobilizer signal converter (near the driver-side speaker). Will tinkering with this bypass any immobilizer issues? And btw, this is my car, i own it and bought it righfully.

DME issues are fairly rare, and if the DME was having problems, it would code on itself.

You cannot easily bypass the immobilizer system in these cars, otherwise they would be easy to steal. Both the immobilizer and DME must recognize each other for the car to start. Remove the immobilizer and the car becomes a lawn ornament.
