Clunky sound from the rear end while going over bumps

When I drive around and go over small bumps I get a lot of rattling noise from the rear end. It sounds like a bad sway bar link. I have looked under the back but I can't find anything loose. When I push down on the car I don't hear anything unusual.

I do have a good engine mount, I replaced it about a year ago so I know that is okay.

Any ideas?

Same problem with my 2001. going over cobblestones, it sounds like the back is falling off!

See my post on the first page #10 "rattle". Most likely the track arm. You wont be able to tell by wiggling anything. You can buy them for $200-$300 new or do what I did and smacked them with a socket to tighten the ball joint. About a 30 minute job per side. I have about 4,000 miles on the fix. Can't say how long it will last. About to do the same on the fronts since they are starting to rattle as well.

thanks, I will take a look at the track arms.

when you pull the track arm off, you will notice that the ball and socket portion is really loose, that is what is causing the rattle, when you hit the right area with a socket, you are just tightening up the joint again. When you are finished, it should be more difficult to move again.

confirmed when twisting the track arm it is loose.

Curious as to how the hammer method works for you. Any hints on how to get that thing off?

I am probably going to buy new arms eventually.
