Waterpump replacement

Hi,

Is 50k about the time a water pump should be replaced on a 2000 Boxster S. The engine currently does not have any heating issues but I am closing in on 50k.

Suggestions, recommendations?

Also, what does composite blades mean?

Thanks,

David

Beware dealer prices for pump replacement! $495 for the pump, and $623 labor! Don't know about aftermarket pumps, but you will do better going to an independent shop, or do it yourself. $63 for one gal. of anti-freeze.! Don't get hosed like me. Composite means plastic.

I bought mine of pelican.
I ended up getting a ruptured coolant tank one day so I decided to replace out both the pump and tank.
I had a little over 70k on my 01.

I did mine in October 2013 and my total cost for parts was $406. One item that added to the cost was shipping for the Porsche coolant. I used an OEM pump and gasket. I bought my parts from Sunset Porsche in Oregon.

Do the coolant tank at the same time. It is a ticking time bomb.
It's a PITA, but not really that hard.

I can vouch for that (coolant tank) just built a 3.8 for my Boxster and my mechanic found a leak on the coolant tank. The mechanic who did the engine only wanted money. He didn't replace the OAS either. I changed mechanics.

Fortunately the tank was replaced by previous owner.

Thanks for the responses.
