I bought a 1999 Boxster base in August, and also the 101 projects book. This is the 2nd car I've ever worked on the 1st being a 1970 Triumph GT6+ where I had to rewire the dash. I may be a simpleton, but I honestly don't want to break anything. Replacing the cabin filter wasn't bad, but getting it to fit right, it was tight. On to the air filter is a little more complex, so when you say "find and pull off the lower ball joints" and "remove the spring clips" I assume that some people know how to do this, without messing up anything. Could you give me a more detailed explanation, proper tools and technique?

No tools needed. The ball joints are located on the side, one on each side. Each is is on end of a cable. Pull off ball joint on bottom of cable. Next there is a piece of plastic that runs at the absolute closet location to the trunk. It is held to the body by two plastic brackets. Just pop out of the brackets on each side by pushing down. After release flip the part just disconnected up towards the window. Turn clamps that hold carpet down and pull carpet out towards rear of car. Next unlatch the five clamps on engine lid and then lift and pull towards the rear and out. Air filter box on drivers side, loosen clamps and pull filter canister out. Put in new air filter and reverse process. 1st time took me a 1/2 hr, can do now in a couple minutes. It really easy. Just go slow.

Thanks, this is real clear! Silly as it sounds, any method to the bracket arm spring clips?
Flat head screwdriver under the spring tab on the button, lift and slide? ![]() |

I think they just popped off with my fingers. A flat head screw driver might work as well.
