Great article, Wayne. Thank you!
I have a 2001 996 Twin Turbo with PCM1 Nav system and factory amplifier brown B-connector per diagram above is not being used. I now want to install an iPad Mini and a receiver with internal amplifier and iPad support. From all I have read the Metra 70-1787 adapter makes a plug-and-play connection between the RCA speaker level output on the receiver and the yellow C1 plug in the diagram above. However, it makes more sense to me to cut off the RCA plugs on the Metra harness and use the line speaker output on the receiver, via the Metra harness and the C1 connector, as input for the factory amplifier. Questions: - Which way should I wire the receiver to the amplifier? From the RCA outputs, or from the line outputs, on the receiver? - Where is the amplifier located in my car? - Should I consider bypassing the factory amplifier and go direct from the RCA output on the receiver to the speakers? TIA, Ola __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Porsche Boxster iPod Integration and Stereo Head Unit Replacement - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article |
I would follow the intended use, and not remove the RCA jacks. Install it where instructed.
Don;t bypass the factory amp, your sound levels will be off. The amplifier is located in the front luggage compartment, mounted to the firewall. - Nick |
