coolant leak and wet floor carpet, are they related?

Hi all,

It's a 02 boxster that has been sitting for 3 years. I finally fixed the immobilizer and got the engine running. The coolant is low, which is weird because I added it three years ago before I parked the car. And the carpet on both driver's side and passenger's side is wet...

So I put dry printing papers behind the seats with the intention of soaking up the water in the carpet. I went through a lot of papers but the carpet are still wet, but better than before...

Meanwhile, I added coolant to the car... let the car idled for a few hours a day and three days... The temperature is stable around 190f ... however I did notice water leaking from the rear body, the front the rear wheel well... actually it is from the tranmission reinforcement bar... Then today I find the water temperature is not stable anymore... I am pretty sure there is a water leak...I am going to replace water pump tomorrow...

However... would the wet carpet issue be relatesd to a bad water pump? Will the water in floor carpet be coolant? I was always under the impression that the water in carpet is from rain....

Also what else can go wrong beside water pump?

Are you talking about the tank, located in the rear trunk, where you fill coolant in?

I don;t see any water in the trunk....

I don't understand how a cracked trunk can get water into the floor carpet, they are far away from each other... And the water lines goes underneath the body,.,. even there is any leak, it would just leak down onto ground, it should never go up into the carpet...

If in fact is coolant in the cabin my guess would be cracked heater core.

Under the dash.

Good luck

You are right.... Just pull off carpet in rear trunk and add some new coolant... It leaks right thru the resverior like a stream....No time to order a new one...I will have to patch it...

I am not sure it is worth risking trying to glue it back together. I am sure there is pressure and heat involved with the expansion tank. If it ruptures during driving you will need to tow it home or risk overheating your engine.
