Don't try the Actron to clear your codes!
 

Had a "service now" light on my 2011 Boxster Spyder. I like doing the oil changes myself so you can figure my problem.....need to clear that obnoxious service now light. So....I was searching for the meter to be used and where to buy. The closest Porsche dealer is 2.5 hours away. I just borrowed an Actron CP9575...which was a recommended meter since it's a OBD2. Well.......the service light is still on and now the PSM system has been disarmed....I can't engage any of the PCM functions...sport mode...ect. Also the yellow PCM guage light stays illuminated. I tried to reset by removing positive lead from battery...waiting 10secs...then re-attaching....doesn't remedy the problem. Do I need to pucker-up and get this thing to a dealer?

First of all, no Actron product is capable of clearing your service indicator; only a Porsche specific tool (PST II, PIWIS, Durametric) can do that.

Secondly, no Actron product is capable of recoding a Porsche, they simply do not have a way to access the DME or controller software functions and do this; the Actron is a "global" OBD II scan tool, not a programer. Something else has happened, and you now need a Porsche specific system to find out what and correct it.

I just bought a Durametric from Pelican and it works great. Plug it into your OBDII plug in the car and to a USB port on your computer and clear away all those codes. It's a bit pricey but in the long run it will pay for itself. I had an airbag light come on due to the sensor in the safety belt latch. Cleared the light and it hasn't come on since.

Thanks for the info...I have located a Porsche servicer...I guess I'll pucker up and drive 1 hour to get this cleared up. This whole service light thing really stinks since I also have a 1988 911 cab that is a lot simpler to operate/own!
