1999 Boxster Immobilizer caught fire... Help! Please!

Hello all!

Just had a little issue with my 1999 Boxster. Took it to work this morning and noticed at the gate my window wouldn't go down. Thought it was probably the C3 fuse... happened before.

After work, it wouldn't start then finally did. Took it home, still no windows, started it a few more times, checked out all the fuses. None were blown, had a funny electronic smell so I checked out the Immobilizer under the seat.

Turned out the circuits got fried, the car could have caught fire actually.

I'm looking through eBay etc... for a new one, however...

Can I just replace the fried unit or will I need a new matching key, ecu, etc...

You are going to need access to either a PST II or PIWIS system. The keys, immobilizer, and DME share code data to start the car, so some reprograming is going to be necessary.

the unit is a one time program type device. a used one will not work unless you have key fob and matching ECU
