Transmission advise
So I have the grinding 2nd gear on my 02S. I reached out to a couple transmission rebuilders and it looks like 3,500.00. Too rich for my blood. Was looking at picking up a used one from a salvage yard. Any thoughts on my plan? The car has 73k on it so I was going to swap the clutch while I'm in there. Little scared to do the IMS as well.

Your car, money, risk tolerance, choice. I've over maintained many cars. Next buyer always got better than the average. But it has been 50 years since I was left on the side of the road.

Question. How do diagnose that it is actually a bad Transmission. I see change fluid, replace transmission mounts, replace motor mounts, fix shifter cables.
So how do I actually know? My symptom is 1st to 2nd grind and pop out most of the time. Don't use 2nd much because of this. So is there a definite sign? Thanks |
