Reconnecting the clamshell

Is there a trick to reconnecting the clamshell? I removed the pins as everyone says todo to get better access to the engine. However, I can't seem to get these two to come together. Hitting the button inside doesn't seem to move the rod to give the extra 1/2 inch needed.

Brian, did you ever get this figured out? I can't get the clips off mine.

To get the clips off, I just used needle nose pliers and pulled them off.

I also had trouble getting it reconnected. It seems like something shifted. To reconnect, I pulsed the switch watching it until I could get it lined up again. The top was pretty much all the way up before I could connect it. I think my top needs adjusting buts it's now down and I'll worry about it when I take it in for service.
