Max Oil Warning - how to remove excess oil

I just bought a 2013 Boxster. Sitting in the driveway and for normal driving, the oil indicator shows a level top up to the max green segment. However, when I do some spirited driving or on very hot days, I get a yellow warning display saying my oil is above max level. It appears that at the last oil change by the PO, added just a bit too much oil. I read that the display should show one segment down from max after an oil.

I have lots tools, including a hand extractor pump used to remove oil from marine engines. Can I use this with clear tubing to suck out a half a quart out of the engine oil tank from the oil access opening in the rear trunk? Or... must I loosen the oil drain on the engine. That is so fiddlely... oil usually spills all over and the filler plug drops into the container.

I did a search but did not find a direct answer. Thanks for some advice on this.

I'm not sure of the differences but I slightly overfilled my 98 base and solved the problem by dropping the filter, dumping that quantity then carefully topping up.

Brian,
You can drain some right out of the pan at the drain plug. Use rubber gloves and don't let go of the plug. It is easy to control. Gauge how much you drop and then check the level with the key. Your final level will need to be determined with warm oil after it settles for about 30-60 minutes.
just FYI, the one bar above the full mark is about 1/2 qt overfilled. If you're hitting the warning light, you likely have more.

Or drop the oil filter

and dump it which removes oil without an uncontrolled flow. Then run and remeasure. May have to do it twice but there is no risk of rupturing the oil line from the tank to the engine doing it this way and no chance of dumping the whole sump.
