hi, I have a 1999 porsche boxster and the light engine is on due to labmbda probe, aparently I need to change all four of them which I believe its the equivalent to the oxygen sensor but I find online that there are enormous diferences in pricing from $24 a piece to over $100. Lots of diferent brands but in some cases there is lots of direference in pricing even within same brands bosch for example for $22.5 which they claim its universal and it fits, also have that brand in the $60s to $90s range. Denso for example costs a bit over $70 all the way up to $100. I am very confused on which way to go.

Avoid universal, buy a direct fit replacement. Bosch is a good choice. Give The Pelican Parts parts specialists a call at 1-888-280-7799. They can figure out what part or repair kit you need.

Or you can look at this

article which has a table of Bosch part numbers for lambda sensors/oxygen sensors.. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to do the swap, any muffler shop could do it as they are pretty typical in installation. Takes maybe 15 minutes on a lift but let the exhaust system cool down as that area is really really hot.

Any code reader should be able to reset the check engine light and pending codes.

By all means, check with Pelican. You can go directly to the Parts Catalog link at the top of this page. Agreeing with Nick, don't get universals, buy the correct sensors for your car. Even if you don't need all 4 at once, best practice is to do them all at one time.

I've had very good luck with Denso products on other cars. But OEM is bosch and it's fine too. At the very least, tho, you should shop around. Savings of $25 to $30 per sensor adds up quickly when you're buying 4 of them. I hope it isn't raining on our host's parade to suggest that you check at least with the Rock. And maybe your local chain autoparts stores. We owners of older Boxsters are more than likely a bit cash strapped.

Questions...

The O2 sensors codes are very specific as to fault source. Many '99s have only 2 sensors, one per side. You need only to replace the faulting one though it is nice to replace them both so they match.

What code did you get?
