Gauge cluster swap info
Posted this question on another forum. Got some info there that was useful but mainly looking for a confirmation at this point.
I currently own a 2001 usdm boxster that is being driven in canada. I'm looking to transplant a 2002 cadm cluster into it so the main speedo is displayed in kph. Not too fond of the digital speedo as it's tiny. So far the answers I've gotten are swapping out the dials and won't work as 2002 was the introduction of the canbus system. Swapping out the dial seems like a practical solution. My cluster already registers the digital portion in metric. It'll be the original cluster so no need to worry about anything other then sourcing a dial which I have from a 2002 cluster. As far as swapping clusters. As far as I can see it should be straightforward, other then it being a canbus cluster. I would imagine the wiring is the same as the 2001 models were prepped for canbus. As far as swapping in a 996 gauge cluster it seems like any 02-04 cluster would work and I'd think those would be canbus clusters as well. That's kinda what I got from reading the gauge swapping guide. Assuming the 02 cluster I sourced out can work on my 01 boxster, are there any other issues I would run into? Does the gauge cluster store the vin info? Does the mileage displayed have to match the dme?(this cluster has much higher kms) Not sure of beyond those 2 mentioned above if there would be any other issues? |
