97 Boxster top up, clamshell will not open. Dashboard light on. All micro-switches fine, controller/relay and fuses checked. Windows drop, hearing motor humming but the clamshell will not open. The top is up and don't know how to access anything. Please help.

You'll need to remove the rear cover to inspect the drive and levers. I would suggest you grab a repair manual, you should own one. It will have the procedure, special tools and torque specs.

Give our parts specialists a call at 1-888-280-7799.

For almost anything, I go to Pelican's "how to" articles. Nick says to remove the clamshell to inspect the transmission and the various linkages. Fine Nick, how do you open the clamshell if it's locked down by the transmission and the various levers?

Nick and I suspect a bad gear & perhaps broken linkages--been there done that on my 01. All pretty spendy and fidgety. If you buy from Pelican, a good parts source, be sure to tell them the model year. You might have the VIN handy, too. Top linkages and other parts were in flux during the late 90's
