another oil leak thread

I'm new to the boxster forum. I have a friend with one that we put on the hoist to find an oil leak. Pics show it may be coming from the oil pan? From what searches I have done on the forum, it seems there is no gasket - more a loctite sealant? And there is a torque process?
Are leaks from the pan common, or should we be looking elsewhere first. It seems to be originating at the front edge. The bolts all seem tight.
Boy, a lot of oil leak threads. And I thought the aircooled ones were prone to leaks. Don't feel too badly off now.
Appreciate any pointers.

Cam covers? Front main seal? Rear main seal? IMS bearing seal? On mine the IMS seal was badly leaking as were the cam covers.

If it's all original, the Germans used a black RTV on the metal to metal contact points for a sealant.

Oh, and you can get those fasteners with an 8mm socket.

Before you start taking anything apart, clean the entire engine and start looking for the leak with everything clean. What you have is such a mess, you will probably "fix" the wrong thing.

Thanks guys. Yes I plan on cleaning everything first and take the service cover off. I am also suspicious about the oil filler line. If I can't find anything obvious we will then take it for a short run and hope to see some leakage.
