Boxster Spoiler - Idea

Guten Morgen Porsche Freunde!

Santa was good to me this Christmas and brought me a Cayman'esk spoiler for my Boxster. Santa apparently obtained the new spoiler off ebay, and it came painted in my chosen color (Rudolf’s been busy in the paint shop huh!)

This is just a few shots to help any fellow Porscheophile who’s considering the same. I still haven’t decided if it works for me or not, but we’ll see.

Pelican Parts rule! To take off the original spoiler you have to drill out 3 plastic 'oval head screws (B 3.5 x 10)' to remove the 'upper part of spoiler' (quotes are of Porsche part diagram names). Being particular (aka anal) as I am, I called a local Porsche dealer to obtain replacement parts for future retrofits. My call was met with silence as the parts desk had no idea, so obviously no parts were ordered. I then searched high and low on the web for the parts, but all to no avail. I then called Pelican and Glenn immediately quoted the part number and placed an order – Perfect!
In summary, Glenn is a superb Porsche knowledge bank, and Pelican Parts rule!

Thank you for the kind words Adrian, I just hope your praise isn't pre-mature! I ordered those plastic rivets for you and hope they are correct. I feel good about it, but you never know. Let me know when they arrive and if they are what you needed please.

I like the looks of this spoiler. It seems to have a more aggressive profile. I'll definitely put it on my list of "things to do" to my '00 986S.

I have the same "wing" on my Box...I like the look of it without too much attention, just as the Cayman. BTW, you didn't need to drill out the plastic rivets; using a punch, the center comes out. I've also carefully wrappd my original spoiler just in case it goes on again sometime, but I'm not in a hurry.

Thanks for the tip! The round head rivets on mine were sealed units, but I read somewhere you had to push the rivet centers out. I'm the second owner and there's many mods from stock, so I'm not sure if they were original rivets???

You’re right about protecting our stock spoiler too! My stock spoiler was wrapped in the delivery packaging as the new one was fitted for future retrofit (…but there’s no hurry huh).

I like yours in black... subtle, but as Glenn suggests they're more aggressive, and as you say they don't grab too much attention... A great combination.

Tell me JM, was your spoiler a little tight to fit, needing the two spoiler uprights to be pushed together a little to attach the spoiler? I notice now on mine that as you retract the spoiler it sometimes has a little judder as the spoiler has put a little tension in the two uprights. It looks like I'll have to broaden the screw fitting holes to reduce the tension a little (...things to do list stuff)

It's been a couple of years (at least) since I did the install...I don't recall any problems with the fit. I was very careful, however, not to tighten the mounting screws down too far in fear of cracking something. Have not had any problems to date, though I have read of others developing a crack (maybe they overtightned?)

I bought mine off fleabay, pre-painted. If I recall, it was $200-$225 painted and shipped from some place in Florida. Paint work was very nice and glossy (clearcoat). I always keep a good coat of wax on to protect the finish, since it is fiberglass.

Added: Likely these guys...looks like price went up a bit, but I bought mine a while back.

Yeah, I got mine from the same source on ebay. A good fit, descent color match and well finished... Overall a great option.

BTW, the yellow looks very nice from the pics...I assume you're happy with the color match.

Yes, it has a great color match in my OEM Porsche Speed Yellow.

Only a slight discrepancy can be seen in direct sunlight when you're up real close, but I was being picky that day, and it could be a natural ageing issue. In normal ambient conditions it looks real good though.

I like the looks of most of the after market spoilers for the boxster, but do they work as good as the org.? Most seem to delete the center section. The org. style looks like it works like a billiewicker(spelling?) on an indy car.

For those who find this thread while looking for recommendations on Spoiler.

If you like this spoiler above, but are looking to close the gap between the spoilers and the bumper - important if you plan on getting it painted to match in a light color - I found this one that includes key differences:
1. Full shroud so the space between the supports is filled similar to OEM
2. Full backside shroud to fill in the gap between the tip of the spoiler and the rear bumper.
